Mehta-owned WhatsApp suspended a record 7.548 million accounts in India in October, enforcing new IT rules for 2021. Of these, 19,19,000 were proactively blocked before users reported them, as detailed in WhatsApp's monthly compliance report.
The platform has a user base of over 500 million people in the country and received 9,063 complaint reports in October. Action was taken on 12 of these reports, indicating that WhatsApp took corrective action in response to these reports by suspending accounts or reinstating previously suspended accounts.

Meanwhile, in its latest update, WhatsApp introduced a secret code feature that allows users to protect their private conversations. Users now have the option to set a personal password that includes emojis and use their device's biometrics to increase the security of their private chats. Blocking chats is now easier by streamlining the process. Users simply long-press on the desired chat and a menu appears with an option to lock the chat.
