India's pair of archers Shital Devi and Winx Princess were eliminated from the archery platform at the Paris Paralympics on Saturday. Shital Devi was eliminated by Maria Zuniga in Round 16. Riding defeated Eleonora Sarti of Italy 141-135 in the Round of 16 group. But in the quarter-finals, she faced Kure or Turkey's Oznur Girdi Kure and was defeated by her.
Sheetal Devi, a resident of Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. She was born without hands due to a disease called phocomelia, a rare congenital disorder that causes underdeveloped limbs. Her fortunes changed in 2019 when she was discovered by the Indian Army at a military camp. Recognizing her potential, the Army provided her with educational support and medical care.
Earlier, Sheetal was being considered as one of India's strongest contenders to win the gold medal at Paris 2024, as she won the silver medal in the women's team event in addition to the gold medal in the individual and mixed team events at the Asian Para Games 2022 held last year. She also won the individual silver medal at the World Archery Para Championships last year.
Sarita Kumari is also from Faridabad in Haryana. Sarita is also one of India's medal hopes in para archery, especially after winning a silver medal in the women's team event at the Asian Para Games last year. She also won a gold medal in the mixed team event and a bronze medal in the women's team event at the World Archery Para Championships last year.
