According to his manager Shashi Sinha, Govind was preparing to leave for the airport for a trip to Kolkata when the incident took place. Sunita Ahuja, Govinda's wife, was in Kolkata, and the actor was home alone. When Ms. Ahuja learned of the incident, she set out for Mumbai.

Dr Ramesh Agarwal, who performed the surgery, said the bullet has been removed and Govinda's condition is stable. The actor will be discharged in three to four days but he needs about a month of rest, the doctor said.
The actor released an audio message for fans from the hospital. He asserted that he was rescued by his supporters, family, and spiritual advisor. Even though the bullet that hit me has been taken out, in the recorded message, he expressed gratitude to the medical staff and mentioned, "I am thankful to the doctors here and your blessings."
On hearing the news of the incident, several family members and well-wishers of the actor rushed to the hospital. His brother Kirti Kumar said, "He is strong-willed and said he wants to go home by this evening. However, he will need to spend two to three days in the hospital." He thanked Govinda's fans for always being there for him.
Govinda's nephew Vinay Anand said, "Prayers of fans from across the world are with him. He could have lost his life but he is fine now. He was laughing. He told me that by God's grace he survived and the bullet could have hit him anywhere. He said Bajrang Bali saved him."
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called Govinda, who is also a Shiv Sena leader, to enquire about his health. "I have personally contacted Govinda and expressed my profound concern regarding his health." "I wish him a speedy and full recovery on behalf of the government and the people of our state," Mr. Shinde said in a statement.
